It Starts With a Meal™

TAKE ACTION TODAY TO END FOOD INSECURITY TOMORROW. It starts with a meal. It leads to resilience, self-sufficiency, education, empowerment and bright futures in communities worldwide.

EDUCATION STARTS WITH A MEAL

We launched our It Starts With a Meal™ movement to share that the journey toward self-reliance and bright futures begins with a single nutritious meal. Our work often starts with a meal by distributing nutritious meals through school feeding programs that provide students with the nutrients they need to focus on their studies and community empowerment programs to increase agricultural production and incomes through programs promoting improved agriculture methods, business skills, and market access.

RECOVERY STARTS WITH A MEAL

In 2022, Rise Against Hunger India provided more than 300,000 meals in response to the flooding in Bangalore, India. Within a few weeks, nearly 75,000 people received emergency aid in 20 locations across Bangalore in highly impacted areas. From preparing nourishing meals for families in their homes within the first few days to distributing Rise Against Hunger meals as people moved back into their homes after the flooding receded, thousands of community members had access to the resources they needed during a challenging time due to your support.

OPPORTUNITY STARTS WITH A MEAL

Rise Against Hunger India is working in the Bargarh District, in the state of Odisha, to engage communities about the value of growing and processing indigenous millets. The Rise Against Hunger India team has been supporting growth by supplying tools and resources to local farmers in Farmer Producer Organizations for the scaling of the production and consumption of millets. The training on cultivation techniques and machinery provided supports more efficient post-harvest processing, enabling thousands of local farmers to increase their crop yields. FPO members have also been trained in marketing strategies, which have led to farmers securing higher prices.
